College of Charleston Hockey

From the Beginning

Hockey in the Holy City

Staring in the fall of 2006, the first club hockey organization at the College of Charleston was started. Beginning as an inline program started by a small group of ice and inline hockey players, the program began to draw large numbers in just a few short years. As interest grew, the program decided to transition into an ice hockey program in the winter of 2009. Through fundraising efforts and the commitment of the players, staff advisor Joe Snecinski and team President Laura Hattrick, the program competed as an official ACHA ice hockey program in 2012.

Snecinski became the first Head Coach of the Cougars and along with Hattrick, led CofC to a Division Championship in the BRHC in 2012. The young team gained prominence by then achieving a top 10 ranking in the fall of 2013 with Snecinski at the helm. After building the program into a 40 member, national contender in 5 seasons, Snecinski retired after 40+ years of coaching after the 2014-15 season.

During the 2015 campaign, the Cougars returned to their roots, battling the best teams in the Southeast after graduating 8 seniors. The program revealed a new look along with a new coaching staff and 12 freshman skaters on the roster. Through their 20 game schedule the Cougars fought through a number of interruptions in the season but finished strong behind the senior leadership of Brian Craig and 4 year staff managers Jordyn Pursel and Tory Holmes.
